London on $13,000 a Day

Welcome aboard. Now hit somebody.

The Redskins have landed their main target, 5 foot 10 245 pound middle Bills linebacker London Fletcher-Baker, signing him to a 5 year 25 million dollar contract. The Redskins are now looking at a linebacking corps consisting of London, Marcus Washington and Rocky McIntosh starting, with Lemar Marshall number 4, and someone else if Warrick Holdman is not re-signed.

If Marcus can return to his 2004 Pro Bowl form, if Rocky can break out like a second round pick should and London can retain his form, this will be a good bunch of backers. London has never missed a game in eight seasons, so I'll try not to invoke the curse of Mark Price.*

London is always there. He has played in all 144 games in his eight year career.

London always makes the scene. He has been a top-5 tackler the past three seasons (2004 / 2005 / 2006).

London is high-brow. He is familiar with Gregg Williams' defense from 2003 in Buffalo and he will be the defensive playcaller in 2007.

After a disastrous 2006 for the defense, this is potentially a very good sign. The squad needs a leader, someone that's bought in, been there and seen it work, someone that can keep the wayward, the guys just cashing checks, focused and in line. I give London permission to kick any and all player ass required to make the thing go.

* Before the 1996 NBA season, Wes Unseld and the Washington Bullets traded their 1996 first round pick (#12 overall) to the Cleveland Cavaliers for fading All-Star Mark Price. Mark played a total of 127 minutes, equivalent to 2.6 games out of an 82-game season. For comparative purposes, there are 3936 regulation minutes in an NBA season, and the Bullets' 1996 leader in minutes played was Juwan Howard with 3294. That first round pick turned out to be Vitaly Potapenko, a 6 foot 10 center-forward, yup, still in the league.
