Post Asswhooping Stress Disorder

The walkin dude, the man with no face

So to my sensibility you do not run up the score the way the Patriots are this season but that doesn't mean anything. It has been the reaction to last week's game that interests me, it has been on everyone's mind.

The mothership, the Post herself ran this headline the day after the game on the front page:

Pats Score Often in 52-7 Rout, But Did They Cross the Line?

Well, not really. Sort of. Actually yes but there was nothing wrong with it. Not nothing wrong just not a big deal. Or it shouldn't have been. But you don't do that. Whatever the Redskins should have stopped them. Who cares, time to move on. But that definitely sucked.

Michael Wilbon thinks the Redskins just rolled over and took it now with extra crotchety old man when I was youngisms and a not very amibiguous I'm not saying they should have gone after Brady but they should have gone after Brady. The upshot? Stop them yourself, don't rely on the other team to let up.

Steve in Tennessee is pissed about Gregg Williams' inability or choice not to adjust to the game conditions, failing to get any pressure on Tom Brady at all. It's the same thing Wilbon is saying, the way I remember that game there was no time to get any pressure. Tom runs all hot routes and 1-2-3 it's gone. That said it looked like the Redskins could make no impact at the Patriots pass protection (or the run blocking for that matter).

The team is responding properly, at least that's the spin. The proper football response to a complete pantsing like that is not to whine about sportsmanship, it's to try and get better. Gibbs even rolled out the let's play Redskins football patented motivation speech. It seems to me sometimes like the Redskins only have team pride on Wednesdays.

There is I believe a risk of simply head bobbing and navel gazing, the team just not buying into the product. It seems every year Joe Gibbs' let's play Redskins football speech is a little earlier every year, it was after ten games last year and I want to say it was 11 games in 2005 right when the team went on a five game streak to make the playoffs.

The Redskins have no one to blame but themselves for getting an atomic wedgie in front of the entire country. No recycled speeches from a great man past his prime are going to change it, this has to come from inside.
