Attention Displaced Redskins Fans

If you don't live in the Washington area then I have an assignment for you

Update 14 October: bumped, DirecTV is telling me there are lots of good photo and essay submissions, not so many video submissions, if you are a Redskins fan outside the DC area get on the stick, put on your Redskins jersey, get your digital camera and make a video telling me your gameday routine and how bad it is to be surrounded by crappy [local NFL team here] fans. Upload it to Youtube or Vimeo (higher resolution) and I will help you write it up. I cannot enter this contest so let me help another Redskins fan win this thing!

Update 9 October: bumped back to the top, if you are a Redskins fan living outside the Washington area read this and enter this contest. -Ben

Evening update
2 October: the guys at the New York Times' Fifth Down blog are pimping this contest as well.

There is a world map in Curly R's sitemeter so I know where you are when you are reading this and I know despite the heavy concentration of local readers most of our traffic comes from outside the DC area. Thanks to cable, teh blogs and internets and NFL Sunday Ticket it is easier than ever to stay close to your team if you live in another area, and now if you are one of those displaced fans then DirecTV wants to hear from you, and it may be worth a trip to Tampa for Super Bowl 43 in January.

About two weeks ago a representative from DirecTV reached out to me about their Displaced Fan Search. DirecTV wanted to know which cities have the highest concentrations of fans of NFL teams in other cities, so they ran the numbers on over a million subscribers and the results are interesting. For example,

The highest concentration of Cowboys fans outside the Dallas Texas area? Washington DC. Aside: of course that is what makes Sunday's win that much more pleasant.

The highest concentration of Redskins fans outside the Washington DC area? Raleigh-Durham North Carolina. Aside: in other news, Curly R welcomes Raleigh-Durham! And promises not to try and offend Duke and NC State fans and alums!

There are more stats, check the press release here.

So here is what you do: figure out how to express yourself and what makes you the best displaced NFL fan in the world. It can be a blog entry slash essay, a photo slideshow or video slash multimedia or any combination thereof. Then go to the DirecTV Ultimate Displaced Fan Search site here, create an entry, post your submission.

You have until 30 November 2008 to submit your entry. For Redskins submitters, I will volunteer any assistance I can provide creatively, editorially or otherwise, I would love to see you go to the Super Bowl.
