When shit met fan
The drumbeat, already loud after the Titans and Colts losses, is really picking up steam. Skin Patrol over at Hogs Haven is calling for Jason Campbell, now, not because Mark Brunell explicitly is the problem:
The QB does not play defense, does not give up big passing plays, does not fail to stop the run, does not fail to place pressure on an opposing QB. Mark Brunell is not to fault for Nick Novak's missed field goals (although his intentional grounding did take us out of range yesterday) or Derrick Frost's punts.
But because something just has to be done, and it should start with the only guy to touch the ball on every play.
Skin Patrol has been on the Jason bandwagon for some weeks now, and I think the risk is that the message benching Mark is 'we quit' and players playing accordingly, as it much as it is 'we're trying to get better.'
Jason La Canfora on Redskins Insider looks at the other NFC teams with one conference win: Tampa Bay, Arizona, Detroit. He also notes San Francisco is not any worse without Brandon Lloyd and Andre Carter. What did Mike Nolan know that Dan Snyder should have known? The Redskins two biggest plays this year:
[T]he coin toss against Jacksonville - let's be honest, neither defense was stopping anyone at that point in that game and whoever got the ball first in OT was going to win - and Troy Vincent's miracle kick block against the Cowboys. That's not a good sign of things to come.
Realistically, this team could be facing major questions at vital positions like QB, CB, DT, DE, LB, K and P this offseason. Again, not a good place to be.
Not. Again.
Lee Gibbons at The Redskin Report: Just Not Good Enough. There is an upside though
What needs to happen to fix this defense? I have no clue, but look at the bright side, I doubt they’ll be any worries of Gregg Williams leaving town this off-season
Way to look at the bright side Lee.
