Tuesday 9 Sept update: results are in, Will Allensworth wins week one, it should be noted that Will did not win a week in year one of Blogger Deathsport so he is already off to a rollicking start.
2008 Blogger Deathsport kicks off year two with a bang as our expanded pool of ten players starts the season off right with the Thursday night national opener, Redskins at Giants. Blogger Deathsport is an inter blog against the spread pick'em pool, lines are drawn from here and each week's undisputed winner is entitled to a post on the losers' front pages. Last season? Yeah I won. Here is your list of competitors with links to their week one picks:
Will Allensworth, Hogs Haven
TexSkins, Hogs Haven
Dagger, Post Game Heroes
Brian Hunter, Common Prejudice NFL, Thursday pick, rest of picks
Derek, Iggles Blog
Blitzburgh, Behind the Steel Curtain
River City Rage, Big Cat Country
Gonzo, Daily Norseman
Gamecocker, Horseshoe Digest
Ben Folsom, Curly R
And now the 2008 NFL season week one picks:
Thursday
WAS @ NYG (-3.5)
Pick: Giants. The line is extending and I've got a bad feeling about this. Would love to be disappointed in this pick.
Result: Giants. Poor first half defense, poor offense overall, the legend of Jim Zorn gets off a rocky start.
Sunday
ARZ (2.5) @ SF
Pick: 49ers. This is a tough pick, both teams are have hope in one hand and their dick in the other as this season opens.
Result: Cardinals. Ken Whisenhunt's secret weapon: Russ Grimm.
SEA @ BUF (-1)
Pick: Bills. Another tough pick, the Seahawks are not expected to be better than last season and the Bills appear to have held or improved.
Result: Bills. Could Seattle be te surprise feel bad team of the season?
CIN (-1) @ BAL
Pick: Bengals. I fully expect Baltimore to fall apart this season, that defense is looking for a last hurrah, I think it was last season.
Result: Ravens. Silly me I thought the Bengals might be something, boy 2005 looks small in the rearview mirror dudnit Marvin?
DAL (-5.5) @ CLE
Pick: Cowboys. Dallas a history of opening big on the road. I think they will start the season looking hot.
Result: Cowboys. My neighbor has Tony Romo as his fantasy starter which makes it a smidge tougher to roor for injury.
DET (-3) @ ATL
Pick: Lions. Detroit is still the same crappy team they were last year, Atlanta has had to reboot.
Result: Falcons. Almost as though the pastyear 40 years had never happened.
CHI @ IND (-9.5)
Pick: Colts. This line is just shy of my ten point review rule, we will see if Peyton is in good shape and that will detemine lines and my votes for the rest of the season.
Result: Bears. Man did Indianapolis look bad. This game was bad for me in two pools but I love to see Peyton take a beating.
JAX (-3) @ TEN
Pick: Jaguars. Jacksonville is still the same team from last year, should be a factor in the AFC.
Result: Titans. Sometimes when you squint you can't tell these teams apart.
KC @ NE (off the board = straight up even)
Pick: Patriots. I almost feed bad for the Chiefs this season. Almost.
Results: Patriots. ZOMGROTFLMAOLAMP!!!1!
TB @ NO (-3)
Pick: Saints. Too much preseason drama for the Buccaneers.
Results: Saints. If you had to pick would you rather have Jon Gruden or a tire iron up side your head?
NYJ (-3) @ MIA
Pick: Dolphins. Chad Pennington playing for a division rival against his team of six years, Brett Favre playing for New York just because he couldn't play for a division rival. This spread is small though.
Result: Jets. Brett Favre just might be one of those Highlander immortals dying salt and pepper into his beard to affect aging.
STL @ PHI (-7.5)
Pick: Rams. I picked Philadelphia in the straight up we're such weatits we can't understand the spread pool I'm in, this line is a bit too large for me.
Result: Eagles. I am so very very disappointed at how good the Eagles looked. Fourth place here we come.
HOU @ PIT (-6.5)
Pick: Steelers. Houston may be the best fourth place division team in history this year.
Result: Steelers. Going to be a good football game if Big Ben keeps his head. Willie Parker.
CAR @ SD (-9)
Pick: Panthers. Although this line is short of my ten point review rule I have to think with the Panthers as dominant on defense as I have seen them and the Shawne Merriman thing hanging over the Chargers that this will be a closer game.
Result: Panthers. One of the best opening day endings in a while. Norval's got the magic back.
Monday
DEN (-3) @ OAK
Pick: Broncos. Both teams are headed south this year, the Oakland on a larger and faster plane.
Result: Broncos. The Raiders never get better any more do they?
MIN @ GB (-2.5)
Pick: Packers. Aaron Rodgers delights the home crowd to start the season, Packers management immediately begins to pat self on back over decision to ship Brett off to New Jersey.
Result: Packers. See above.
Results tallied Tuesday, welcome back football!
