One of no doubt thousands of uncomfortable moments from the past four years
As I was preparing for training camp coverage I came across a couple of interesting things at Pro Football Talk, the indispensable site of NFL news and rumorage.
First from back in July 2006 is a rumor under the headline GIBBS HEADING BACK TO NASCAR AFTER 2007?
NASCAR circles (hey, we got sources everywhere) is that Joe Gibbs will retire (again) from coaching after the 2007 season and return to the NASCAR team that he owns.
Which of course he did, this was a year and half before he did in fact leave the Redskins and 15 months before Sean Taylor was killed.
The second is from April of 2007, titled SNYDER TO SELL IF 'SKINS STUMBLE AGAIN?
After eight years of trying to take the Washington Redskins back to the Super Bowl, owner Dan Snyder could soon be admitting that he's not cut out for the role.
A league source tells us that, if the 'Skins fail to make the playoffs in 2007, Snyder might be firing the only person whom he hasn't fired yet. Himself.
"He seems to be starting to realize that he's the common denominator for every season since he bought the team," said the source. "The question right now is whether he loves the Redskins enough to walk away and let someone else take over."
The source said that another possibility would be for Snyder to sell the majority share of the team to someone else, and then to take a backseat to a new owner.
Quote starting to realize unquote lol. Glad I missed this piece going into last season, coming out of 2006 I would have told you the team was a lock to miss the playoffs and it would have been awkward to have tracked the Sell-O-Meter every week through the 2007 season, as the losses mounted and then the team pulled out one of the greatest late season surges since 2005 the conflicting emotions could have torn this blog apart.
