You Go Boy

Undersized and playing catchup

In a sea of spoiled starters and no-name journeymen, I love the stories of players doing everything they can to make it in the NFL. Last year it was Phillipe Gardent, the French linebacker (guessing with the defunction of NFL Europa that there are no foreign players on NFL rosters this year) that was ultimately cut. This year it's Alex Buzbee, the 6-3 265 pound defensive end from Georgetown University.

For those that do not know, Georgetown has a rich football history, dating back to 1874, and in 1993 they joined Division I-AA and joined the Patriot League in 2001. Georgetown has not produced an NFL player since Jim Ricca, who played six years in the NFL from 1951 to 1957, including four years with the Redskins (who were 18-29 during that stretch, oops).

It is clear that Alex knows he is a longshot. His size makes him a pass rusher and apparently the team likes his speed off the edge. He's positive and is working on his technique and as someone who lived the dream of 'almost,' I know he is enjoying every minute of this whether he makes the team or not.

And if he went to Georgetown I assume he can drink a lot.
