Redskins Training Camp Day Nineteen - How You Doin Coach?

How do you handle bitchass prima donnas?

Thursday 7 August 2008

Redskins tailback Clinton Portis is so ready to get at it Saturday against the Bills that he doesn't want to play but will if he has to to please quote you all unquote in the media. Question: does that include me? Because if it includes me it includes you dear reader. And if Clinton gets hurt it's not his fault because he only has one speed. Can't adjust to preseason. So better not to play him. Or so that's how the story goes. Dude hasn't played a down since January and rest is the most important thing for him. How bout cowboy the fuck up and do a little hitting, August rest is bullshit when you are healthy, you just don't want to practice.

In other news Rock Cartwright tore rib cartilage in practice today (ibid.) and says he will still play Saturday against the Bills. This is not a serious injury for Rock though it may be a good opportunity for Marcus Mason.

At Fullback Farms fullback Pete Schmitt, re signed just three days ago has called it a career, hanging it up from the Redskins practice field (ibid.).

In Safety City rookie sixth round draft pick Kareem Moore appears recovered from his offseason surgery and is having a terrific camp (ibid., also ibid.). Chris Horton was not in pads for the early practice (ibid.). I would love it if all ten draft picks the team made in April made the team.

In Long Snapper Havens Ethan Albright is paranoid.

In Coach Country head coach Jim Zorn says he may mix up his quarterback rotation for the Bills game (op. cit.) which means he probably won't. He says he wants to see how Colt does with better teammates and better opposition. Coach Zorn also points out something that is obvious to me now that he mentions it, Jim Zorn and the Redskins have been silent on expectations for the season (op. cit.). I think this is good.

Will Allensworth at Hos Haven does a 5 Questions exchange with fellow SBN blog Buffalo Rumblings. That's a great idea Will where ever did you get the idea lol. Also via DR. WNC at Hog Haven and Rich Tandler's Real Redskins, a Washington Times Redskins 360 Corey Masisak Brett Favre lol about Pete Schmitt (note to WashTimes, I'd know this stuff ahead of time if you would syndicate your content on RSS).

Matt Terl at the ORB (Official Redskins Blog) reveals by way of his incredible access tells us what had become obvious, the Redskins never had any interest in Brett Favre. My bad. And bonus points to Matt for the In Gus We Trust reference, I wish I had bought one of those, that's RFK shit biatch. Matt later had notes from the morning practice, Justin Tryon, Derek Devine, Leigh Torrence, Maurice Mann, Colt Brennan, Todd Yoder. Matt also watched the afternoon practice with director of player personnel Scott Campbell, and Scott told him how he breaks down the video after each session. Matt's wrap for that practice.

Tony Brown at Hog Heaven puts up an early preview of the Redskins-Jets preseason game on 16 August, it is mostly about the Redskins being in good shape and not needing Brett.

Lee Gibbons has a roundup of position battles in week two.

Ron Burgundy takes a first crack at the 53 man roster, with links to each player's official site profile.

Your obligatory fnord.

NBA Washington Wizards coach Eddie Jordan watched practice today (op. cit.). Coach Jordan was a receiver and defensive lineman at Archbishop Carroll right here in Washington city, I did not know this.

Blogger Chris Cooley posts Clinton Portis' celebrity offense. Samples: TE Heath Ledger's Joker, LG The Terminator. Also, rare locker room pics of Jason Taylor giving away stuff and getting swarmed by teammates.

Redskins transactions of note

Released / retired: fullback Pete Schmitt. Pete was first signed as an undrafted free agent in May 2007. He was re signed in March 2008 then released 19 July then re signed on 4 August. He is done with football (ibid. and op. cit.), this is particularly bad news for Will at Hogs Haven.

Signed: safety Justin Hamilton, re signed (ibid.). Justin, a seventh round pick by the Browns in 2006, appeared in ten games that year, was injured in 2007 training camp and was released with an injury settlement and was out of football in 2007, was signed and then released by the Redskins in May of this year. Oddly Justin chose to take jersey number 46, also the number of Ladell Betts. It would seem to me that if you were trying to make a team you would not pick the number of a player that is already guaranteed to make the team but maybe I am missing something.
