WaPo training camp tracker: undrafted free agent Curtis Gatewood, Jim Zorn on preparation for the Hall of Fame Game against Indianapolis
The headline today is linebacker HB Blades going under the knife, he had arthroscopic surgery to repair the meniscus in his left knee and is expected to be out a month, that would be pushing right up to opening day. And alarmingly like last season the hamstring injuries keep mounting, Malcolm Kelly, Devin Thomas, Anthony Mix and LaRon Landry all have hamstring problems (op. cit.). Must have something to do with global warming.
In quarterback ville Jason Campbell seems to be picking up this offense thing pretty well (ibid.), Jason La Canfora said Jason Campbell was quote red hot unquote. So much for mr. seven systems in eight years.
In tight end township Chris Cooley visited some sick kids at Children's Hospital, hung out with them and gave out some gifts (ibid.). Chris is a great guy and continues to solidify himself as a mainstay of the community. He'll be able to stay in Washington forever and never need to pay for a drink or a meal again at this rate.
In safety city Shawn Springs getting reps in at safety, again, that Stuart Schweigert guy is back from whatever he was out for and rookie sixth round draft pick Kareem Moore is back to full practices (ibid.), he had had offseason knee surgery and needs to get back to work, fellow rookie Chris Horton has a lead on Kareem at this point and even though they are slated to play different safety positions if it comes down to a numbers game they will simply keep the better prospect regardless of which position.
In cornerback land Carlos Rogers appears to be coming back from his injury, last season he tore both the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in his right knee in a collision with linebacker London Fletcher in game seven last season against the Patriots. Although he may be to full speed, his new full speed may not be the same as his old full speed, and it may never come back. Oh and it's Roge-ers, not Rod-gers.
In tailback grove Eric Shelton is still out with his neck injury, he has been experiencing numbness (ibid.), that not good. Looks like Jason LaCa sets me straight, it was stinger-z, stingers, not stin-ger (op. cit.). Eric has had at least two serious hits to the neck.
In the quaint hamlet of offensive line Jason Fabini began vomiting on the field and was excused from the morning practice (ibid.). I find this somewhat amusing since it was just yesterday that everyone was raving about his cooking. Note to Jason Fabini: don't leave the mayo out so long.
In receiver estates Malcolm Kelly and his pulled hammy participated in the afternoon session, a little.
Lee Gibbons at The Redskin Report pretty much kind of bitchslaps that Stuart Schweigert guy with Raider X's words.
Greg Trippiedi has as ever cogent thoughts on Carlos Rogers: team is right to bring him along slowly, better to have less of him at the beginning of the season than none of him at the end.
Matt Terl at the ORB (Official Redskins Blog) is running a training camp photo contest. I hope he keeps posting the best pics, like the one at top. Also Matt continues to exploit his near complete access, bringing us backstage at Redskins Park, and here and here and here. And cool sideline game gear. Can't wait until Dan Snyder invites Matt up to his office.
Matt finds another cool Jim Zorn QB drill, the customized passing target. Here is a better picture of it, bout halfway down. Jim Zorn has cool toys.
Ron Burgundy got his season tickets today. Awsum. He also has a comment on getting drunk at games. As an infrequent game attendee and one with kids, I generally wish stadium football fans would chill out a bit with the loutish drunken behavior, it really can be discouraging for families and the worst part is the teams encourage it through alcohol sales and lax enforcement against the worst offenders. That said about every third or fourth game I am that guy getting the meanlook from the dad with kids.
