An eight game player in a sixteen game league
Shaking tiny fists of rage at the infinite I fall to my knees and cry
Why didn't Shawn Springs start last Sunday?
We know Shawn did not start the game despite the CBS A team of Jim Nantz and Phil Simms showing his picture (right) and waxing on about how "the Redskins start four first round draft picks in the secondary" said Phil. Fred Smoot was a second round pick.
It was a surprise to me and Monday Bram Weinstein reported that Joe Gibbs was evasive at his Monday press conference. David Elfin at the WashTimes via Hog Heaven immediately went for the LaVar Arrington treatment.
The next day Jason La Canfora reported that Joe Gibbs and the coaches thought he could not push off as well and seemed to be 'holding up a little bit. That day Bram described the way in which the coaches had gotten their stories straight, Shawn comes out of a trainers room with his hamstrings wrapped and everyone went shit he's not 100%. Trainer to secondary coach Jerry Gray, Jerry to Joe Gibbs. This is also how Joe Gibbs described it on Bram and Larry Michael's show and mentions coaching concern about wrapped hamstrings specifically.
Friday La Canfora and John Keim at the DC Examiner had Shawn's side of the hamstring divide: wrapping up is something 'veterans do.' I can get behind that.
He'll get his playing time. If the Redskins can play well with Loveboat Freddie why the hell not. Save Shawn, if you can only have him for eight games it's better to have him later.
And if it allowed Joe Gibbs to send some sort of message about what he thinks of Shawn's whole...thing, whatever, Shawn wouldn't take a paycut or train in DC, now let's play football.
